Hybrid vs Electric Cars

Hybrid vs. EV: Which Is Better For You?

Hybrid vs. Electric Cars: Choose the Perfect Ride for a Greener Future At Preston Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Dover, we're committed to assisting our customers in finding the perfect car for their needs. As the world embraces a more sustainable future, EVs and hybrid vehicles are becoming increasingly popular choices and for good reason. But with so many options available, deciding which one is right for you can be a challenge. Our blog dives into the key differences between hybrid vs. electric cars, empowering you to make a well-informed decision that aligns with your lifestyle and environmental values. Keep cruising along to learn the difference between an EV & hybrid, and explore our inventory to shop our available EVs and hybrids! Understanding the Technology Under the Hood You may be questioning: what is the difference between hybrid and electric cars? The core difference between hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs) lies in their power source. Traditional gasoline-powered cars rely solely on an internal combustion engine. EVs, on the other hand, ditch the gas tank altogether, using an electric motor powered by a high-voltage battery. This translates to zero tailpipe emissions, a significant benefit for our environment. Hybrid cars, however, take a middle ground. They combine an electric motor with a classic gas engine, seamlessly interchanging between the two depending on driving conditions. Hybrids can switch between electric power and gas, offering a balance of efficiency and speed. What are Hybrid Cars? Hybrid vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and the Chrysler Pacifica PHEV offer a compelling blend of fuel efficiency and practicality. Their internal combustion engine ensures you can tackle long road trips without range anxiety. When driving around town or during stop-and-go traffic, the electric motor kicks in, maximizing fuel economy and minimizing emissions. Regenerative braking in hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles allows the car to recapture energy from braking and use it to recharge the battery. Hybrids may require slightly more maintenance due to their dual powertrain, but they often have a lower upfront cost compared to EVs. What are Electric Vehicles? Electric vehicles like the Ram REV represent the cutting edge of sustainable transportation. Owning an electric car comes with benefits such as zero tailpipe emissions, a smooth, quiet ride, and lower operating costs due to cheaper electricity compared to gasoline. However, there are drawbacks, including limited driving range and evolving charging infrastructure. Fully electric vehicles often have higher upfront costs compared to hybrids, but they may qualify for more substantial federal tax incentives. They provide a smooth, quiet ride and lower operating costs thanks to significantly cheaper electricity compared to gasoline. However, their driving range is typically limited to 200-300 miles on a single charge, requiring more planning for long journeys. Additionally, charging infrastructure is still evolving, so access to charging stations may be a factor to consider. Going Green: It's About the Journey, Not Just the Destination When comparing hybrid vs. electric cars, both hybrid and electric vehicles offer significant environmental benefits compared to traditional gasoline-powered cars. Hybrids provide a smooth transition to a more sustainable lifestyle, reducing emissions while maintaining the familiarity of a gas engine. Electric vehicles, on the other hand, make a bold statement towards a zero-emission future, offering substantial environmental benefits by completely eliminating tailpipe emissions. Hybrid electric vehicles are generally more efficient than traditional cars but may not match the efficiency and driving experience of fully electric vehicles, which offer instant torque and a quieter ride. Costs & Practicality: Are Hybrid Cars More Expensive Than Electric Cars? Electric vehicles often boast lower operating costs due to electricity being cheaper than gasoline. However, when comparing costs and features, plug-in hybrids offer a happy medium between traditional hybrids and electric vehicles, providing benefits like tax incentives and reduced range anxiety. However, their upfront purchase price can be higher than hybrids. Hybrids strike a balance, offering improved fuel efficiency without the initial price tag of a full EV. Additionally, the performance differences between electric and gas vehicles are notable, with electric vehicles providing instant torque, quietness, and a smoother driving experience compared to gas vehicles. The Bottom Line: Making a Decision & Choosing Your Perfect Ride Ultimately, the choice between hybrid cars vs. electric cars boils down to your individual needs. A hybrid car gets its power from both an electric motor and an internal combustion engine, offering the benefit of not needing to be plugged in for charging as it receives energy from the internal combustion engine and regenerative braking. Consider your driving habits: do you frequently take long road trips, or are your commutes primarily around town? Evaluate your budget: are you comfortable with a potentially higher upfront cost for an EV, or do you prioritize a more affordable option? Don’t forget to factor in your environmental conscience: are you looking to significantly reduce your carbon footprint, or is a gradual shift toward sustainability your goal? Test Drive Your Future Still conflicted on hybrid vs. electric cars? Which Electric Vehicles Qualify For A Tax Credit?

Power Up Your Savings: A Guide to Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram EV Tax Credits At Preston Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Dover, we're all about helping you find the perfect vehicle that fits your lifestyle and budget. And in 2024, with the ever-evolving landscape of EVs that qualify for tax credits, there's never been a better time to consider a fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly option from Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram. But wait, there's more!  Making the switch to electric doesn't just benefit the planet; it can also benefit your wallet thanks to generous federal tax credits. Let's break down everything you need to know about which EVs qualify for EV tax credits and how to claim these electric incentives for your new Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram model. The EVs That Qualify: Your Sustainable Ride Awaits The good news is that there are three exciting Chrysler and Jeep EVs that qualify for tax credits! Here's a closer look: Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid PHEV: This versatile minivan offers exceptional fuel efficiency and functionality. The Chrysler Pacifica PHEV seamlessly blends electric power for short trips with a gasoline engine for extended range, making it ideal for families on the go. As one of the CDJR EVs that qualify for tax credit, you could potentially claim a full $7,500 tax credit from the federal government EV incentive program. Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe PHEV: Experience legendary Jeep off-road capability with a twist – pure electric power! The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe hybrid delivers impressive electric range and the freedom to explore farther on a single charge. Jeep Wrangler 4xe PHEV: The iconic Jeep Wrangler gets a thrilling electric upgrade with the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. Go from conquering city streets to dominating off-road trails with the power and efficiency of a plug-in hybrid system. Though both of these Jeep models are technically PHEVs, they still count as EVs that qualify for tax credits. 2022 to 2024 model years of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe PHEV and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe PHEV could be considered for receiving a partial $3,750 tax credit to cash in. These innovative Chrysler and Jeep vehicles not only provide exceptional performance and fuel economy but they also are considered as EVs that qualify for tax credits, making them a smart and sustainable choice for your next adventure. EV Tax Credit 2024 Changes: Maximize Your Savings The federal EV tax credit system has undergone some key changes for 2024. Previously, the credit amount was based on the battery capacity of the vehicle. Now, the credit is determined by the vehicle's source of critical minerals – a move designed to support domestic battery production. The current credit amount remains at up to $7,500, but some limitations apply. For instance, there's a phase-out period for manufacturers that have sold a large number of qualifying EVs. Beyond the specific EVs that qualify for a tax credit, the most exciting change for the 2024 EV tax credit is the instant rebate system. Gone are the days of waiting until tax season to claim your credit! Under this new program, the tax credit is applied directly at the dealership, reducing the final purchase price of your new Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram EV. This makes going electric even more financially advantageous. It's important to consult with our knowledgeable sales team to determine the exact credit amount applicable to your specific 2024 Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram EV model. The Road to Sustainable Savings Starts Here At Preston CDJR of Dover, we're passionate about helping you find the perfect vehicle that's both eco-friendly and budget-conscious. Our selection of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram EVs combines cutting-edge technology with legendary performance, all while offering the potential for significant tax savings. EV Affordability: Savings, Costs, & Incentives

Electrifying Your Drive: Unveiling the Affordability of CDJR EVs & PHEVs At Preston Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Dover, we're all about empowering drivers to experience the thrill of EVs on the road. We understand the ever-evolving landscape of automotive technology, and that's why we're championing the exciting world of EV affordability. There's a common misconception that EVs are a luxury reserved for a select few. Our team is here to shatter that myth and unveil the surprising EV affordability of Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram's lineup, including not just fully electric vehicles but also fuel-efficient hybrids and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). Follow along to learn more about the Jeep EV tax credit and shop our current inventory! EV Cost Savings: Beyond the Gas Pump The most obvious benefit of EV affordability is the elimination of gas station visits. While gas prices fluctuate, the cost of charging an EV remains considerably lower. Think about it – filling your tank can be a significant expense each month, but charging your EV at home overnight takes advantage of off-peak electricity rates, translating to substantial savings throughout the year. Additionally, many employers and public spaces are installing charging stations, offering convenient top-ups while you're on the go. But EV affordability extends beyond just electricity. EVs require less maintenance compared to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles. Their simpler electric drivetrains have fewer moving parts, meaning fewer oil changes, spark plug replacements, and other routine maintenance costs. Regenerative braking, an efficient feature in EVs, helps to prolong the life of your brake pads by capturing energy during deceleration, further reducing maintenance needs. Power Up Your Savings with EV Tax Credits The U.S. government offers a significant federal tax credit to incentivize the purchase of new electric vehicles. We're here to help you maximize these savings on your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram EV or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle and expand your EV affordability! Federal EV Tax Credit: As of now, the federal tax credit amount varies depending on the battery capacity of the EV. For certain 2024 Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram EVs with larger battery packs (greater than 16 kilowatt-hours), you may be eligible for a tax credit of up to $7,500. This means you can reduce your federal tax liability by a significant amount when you purchase a qualifying vehicle. It's important to note that the specific credit amount and eligibility criteria can change, so we recommend checking with the IRS for the latest details. State and Local Incentives: The good news doesn't stop there! Many states, including Delaware, offer EV tax credits and incentives. Delaware drivers can save up to $2,500 on select Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram EVs or PHEVs! EV affordability and incentives can come in various forms, including additional tax breaks, rebates on charging station installation, or even exemptions from certain fees like registration or tolls. By working with us, you can be sure you're taking advantage of all the available programs to reduce the cost of owning a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram EV further. Maximizing Your Savings: Understanding the complex world of tax credits and incentives can feel overwhelming. We'll work closely with you to determine your eligibility for both federal and local DE EV incentives. We'll explain the specifics of each program and help you navigate the application process, ensuring you claim every available dollar of savings and benefit from EV affordability. Financing Solutions: Even after factoring in tax credits, the upfront cost of a new EV can still be a concern. That's why we offer a variety of financing options tailored specifically to EV affordability. Our finance team will work with you to find a loan or lease program that fits your budget and driving needs. We can explain the advantages of low-interest EV loans and explore leasing options that offer attractive monthly payments. EV Range & Batteries: Understanding Range & The Life Of An EV

Navigating the Electric Highway The world of electric vehicles is bustling with excitement, and here at Preston Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Dover, we're leading the charge in offering a diverse selection of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram EVs and hybrid models. Whether you're an eco-conscious adventurer, a family on the go, or a business owner seeking sustainable solutions, we have an EV to fit your lifestyle. But with so many options and terms like "range" and "battery life" floating around, it's natural to have questions. This blog aims to be your one-stop shop for understanding EV range and batteries, empowering you to make an informed decision about your next electric ride. Understanding EV Range: How Far Can You Go? One of the most common questions we hear is, "How far can an electric vehicle go on a single charge?" This is where "range" comes in. Range refers to the estimated distance an EV can travel on a full battery charge. Here's a breakdown of the range for some of our exciting 2024 models: Jeep Wrangler 4xe Hybrid: Conquer any terrain with confidence with an impressive estimated Jeep EV range of 370 miles on the Jeep Wrangler 4xe hybrid. Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Hybrid: The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe offers a total EPA-estimated Jeep EV range of up to 470 miles, making these models perfect for off-road exploration and everyday commutes. Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV: Experience muscle car thrills with a twist! The Dodge Hornet R/T delivers an estimated 30 miles of electric range and 360 miles of total driving range, allowing you to enjoy zero-emission driving around town while unleashing its powerful HEMI® engine on longer journeys. Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid: This family favorite prioritizes both efficiency and comfort. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid boasts an estimated electric range of 32 miles and 520 EPA-estimated miles of total driving range. The Ram 1500 REV: Ram is making a statement with its first electric truck, the Ram 1500 REV. Available in two battery pack options, the standard pack offers an estimated 350-mile range, while the available pack extends that range to a targeted 500 miles. Jeep EV Battery Life: How Long Will It Last? Another crucial factor in Jeep EV range is battery life – how long will your EV battery hold a charge over time? Modern EV batteries are remarkably durable, and advancements in technology are constantly improving their lifespan. Generally, you can expect an EV battery to retain around 70-80% of its capacity after 10 years or 150,000 miles, which is comparable to the lifespan of a gasoline engine in most vehicles. Many manufacturers, including those we represent, offer warranties on their EV batteries, providing additional peace of mind. How Long Do EVs Last? In addition to questions concerning Jeep EV range, other inquiries come along with making the switch to electric driving. With proper care and maintenance, electric vehicles can last just as long as traditional gasoline-powered cars. Electric motors have far fewer components than gasoline engines. This translates to less wear and tear, potentially reducing maintenance costs over the lifespan of the vehicle. Furthermore, electric vehicles benefit from regenerative braking, a technology that captures energy during deceleration and puts it back into the battery. This reduces wear and tear on the traditional braking system, extending the life of those components. We understand that Jeep EV range anxiety, the fear of running out of power before reaching your destination, can be a concern for some EV shoppers. However, the advancements in battery technology are constantly improving the Jeep EV range. For instance, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe offer an estimated electric range that allows you to tackle errands and commutes in pure electric mode, with the gas engine seamlessly taking over for longer trips. The Future is Electric At Preston CDJR of Dover, we're committed to providing you with the information and resources you need to navigate the exciting world of EVs. However, EVs still require regular service to ensure optimal performance and safety. Our certified technicians are specially trained to handle the unique needs of your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram EV. Your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram EV service might include: High-voltage battery inspection: Our technicians will perform a thorough inspection of your EV's battery pack, checking for any potential issues that could affect performance or range. Thermal management system check: The thermal management system keeps your EV's battery cool during operation. We'll ensure this system is functioning properly to maximize battery life and efficiency. Our technicians will handle these updates for you. Tire rotations and alignments: Just like any car, proper tire care is crucial for your EV's safety and performance. Our technicians will inspect the brake system for any signs of wear or damage. Avoid letting your battery completely drain before charging, and aim for a level between 20% and 80% for daily use. Refer to your owner's manual for specific charging recommendations for your model. Regenerative braking: Utilize your EV's regenerative braking feature whenever possible. This system captures energy from braking and feeds it back into the battery, extending your range. We will also check this during your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram EV service. Climate control: Extreme temperatures can affect battery performance. Now, you have a variety of EV charging options, from convenient home charging to on-the-go stations. To locate public charging stations near you, there are several user-friendly apps available. Popular options include PlugShare, ChargePoint, and the apps offered by major charging networks like Electrify America. These apps will not only display nearby stations but also provide details like charger type, real-time availability, and even user reviews. Planning a road trip? Many navigation apps now integrate EV charging station locations, making it easier than ever to map your route and locate Dover, DE, charging stations nearby. The three EV charging options vary in terms of voltage requirements, power delivery, and how quickly they can juice up your battery. Let's dive into each type of EV charging to find your perfect match: Level 1 Charging: The Slow and Steady Winner Level 1 chargers utilize a standard 120-volt AC outlet found in most homes. While convenient and readily available, it's the slowest option. A full charge from empty to 80% for a battery EV can take a whopping 40-50 hours! However, for plug-in hybrids with smaller batteries, Level 1 charging might suffice, typically taking 5-6 hours for an 80% charge. Level 2 Charging: Your Home EV Charging Powerhouse Looking for significantly speedy EV charging options? Level 2 charging is the most common option for home installations, workplaces, and public charging stations. Packing a punch with 208-240 volts AC, Level 2 chargers can get your EV battery to 80% in just 4-10 hours, a significant improvement over Level 1. PHEVs take an even bigger leap, reaching an 80% charge in a mere 1-2 hours with Level 2. DC Fast Charging: The Speedy Savior Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) is your champion of Jeep EV charging options when you need power in a pinch. Using a powerful 400-1000 volts DC, DCFC chargers can deliver an 80% charge to your EV battery in a timeframe of 20 minutes to 1 hour. Keep in mind that DCFC chargers are primarily designed for battery EVs and may not be compatible with most PHEVs. They also come in various connector types, including CCS, CHAdeMO, and Tesla connectors. So, whether you're a homebody with a Level 1 charger, a strategic planner with a Level 2 setup, or a frequent traveler relying on DCFC stations, there are plenty of EV charging options perfectly suited for your endeavors. Best Practices for Optimal Charging To maximize the lifespan and performance of your battery, here are some key EV charging practices to follow: Avoid extreme temperatures: Extreme heat or cold can impact battery performance. Whenever possible, park your vehicle in a climate-controlled garage while charging. Resist overcharging: Most hybrids and PHEVs automatically shut off charging once the battery is full. However, it's still a good habit to unplug your vehicle once it's reached the desired charge level. Plan your charging: Utilize off-peak electricity hours whenever possible, as this can save you money on your charging costs. Regular maintenance: Following your vehicle's recommended maintenance schedule, which may include checks on the charging system, is crucial for optimal performance and longevity. Order-Only Gas Models In Store For Stellantis

ASK US ABOUT CARB REGULATIONS Pump the Brakes Times are changing, which means new standards are being set in place. This spring, Stellantis announced that they will be adjusting their vehicle rollout based on whether a state abides by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) emissions rules. Whether you’re planning to buy a Jeep Wrangler or not, this is big news for the automotive industry. Interested to see what’s in store for Stellantis in CARB states? Stay tuned and visit Preston Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Dover to see our wide variety of inventory! Driving Forward As we mentioned before, to be a CARB state, the state adheres to the rules and regulations of the California Air Resources Board. In addition to Washington D.C., there are currently fourteen CARB states, including: Colorado Connecticut Delaware Maine Maryland Massachusetts New Jersey New York Oregon Pennsylvania Rhode Island Vermont Virginia Washington What Does This Mean? Essentially, CARB states will have an immense reduction of gas-only shipments, or in some cases, the shipments will be cut off completely. However, these CARB states will be the ones receiving Stellantis PHEV models. So what does this mean for non-CARB states? In short, states that do not identify as CARB states will be the ones receiving all of the Stellantis gas models and little to no PHEV models. For example, if someone lives in Maryland, they’ll have to cross into non-CARB territory to get a gas-only model, or they will have to order the vehicle from Stellantis to be shipped. Stay in the Loop There are big things on the horizon for the automotive industry. As your go-to CDJR dealer, we are here to help you stay up to date on the latest news regarding only-order Stellantis gas models and provide other information in accordance with CARB regulation rollouts. Jeep Fully Electric SUVs

ASK US ABOUT FULLY ELECTRIC JEEP SUVS An Electrifying Future Jeep is looking to lead the charge in all-electric, all-terrain dominance. We all know about the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe electric hybrid models that have made waves around the nation, but there hasn’t been an all-electric Jeep … until now! While information is very limited, Jeep revealed at the Paris Motor Show this past October that they will be introducing four fully-electric SUVs to their roster and have plans to eliminate carbon emissions from their entire lineup. With news like this, our crew at Preston Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Dover is ecstatic and can’t wait to see these new Jeeps on the lot. The Plan By 2025, Jeep plans to only release fully electric and electric-hybrid models in North America and Europe, with the hope that by 2030, all Jeeps in production will be fully electric. The goal is that by 2030, 50% of all North American Jeep sales and 100% of all European Jeep sales will be fully electric models. The news is not surprising to anyone who has kept up with Jeep and Stellantis as a whole, as models like the 4xe Jeeps, the Dodge Hornet, and future vehicles, like the fully-electric 2024 Dodge Charger, have caught the attention of drivers around the nation. If you’re wondering, “Does Jeep have a fully electric vehicle?” The answer is currently no. However, that will soon change with the release of the Jeep Recon in North America, the Jeep Avenger in Europe, and the reimagined Wagoneer S which is set for a global release. Here’s what we know about each of these new electric Jeeps: Jeep Recon This Jeep will feature trail-rated capability and similar to the Jeep Wrangler, will have all-terrain systems like Selec-Terrain traction management. The Jeep Recon will also feature removable tops, doors, and glass. Reservations for this fully electric BEV Jeep SUV will open in early 2023, while production will begin in 2024. Jeep Avenger The targeted battery range of the Jeep Avenger is approximately 400 kilometers and the off-road capability will be catered to the European market. Production is already underway and these new fully electric Jeep SUV models are expected to be released in early 2023. Wagoneer S The class and luxury we expect from Wagoneer vehicles will certainly impress, as well as the new aerodynamic design and powertrain capabilities that will be seen in the Wagoneer S. Off-road prowess and top-tier motor performance will come standard in the Wagoneer S. The SUV will have a targeted range of 400 miles, 600 horsepower, and the ability to go from 0-60 MPH in a mere 3.5 seconds. Like the Jeep Recon, reservations will open in early 2023, and production will begin in 2024.
